PAWS (Promoting Animals with Service) will be having their 3rd Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, November 13 from 11 am till 3 pm on the Wilson Athletic Center lawn.
The festival is being held to raise money for New Horizons Service Dogs, West Volusia Humane Society and Border Collie Rescue. The money made from the festival will buy the most important items on the shelters’ wish lists, such as medicine. The members of PAWS will then buy the supplies at Walmart and give them to the shelters. Angelina Suarez, President, pointed out that people tend to not donate as much during the holiday months, hence the reason PAWS will be donating supplies during that time.
The festival will feature face-painting, henna tattoos, food, and music as well as a bake sale, gift card/basket giveaway and a luck y draw table. Regarding why people should attend the festival, Suarez said that people will “have a great time” and that it provides a “chance for bonding… [It’s a] great family event … you can bring your families together if they live locally and have something to do in Deland! Students are complaining that there is nothing to do in Deland – here’s something to do with your Saturday while benefiting a great cause.” Aniarka Diaz, secretary, said that when people come to the festival it will “really, really help us support the shelters we support…all the profits we get from the festival will really help us help the dogs, the people, and people with the dogs…we can help someone handicapped find the perfect guard dogs. It really helps us and it helps the shelters…and it’s really fun…we have the works.”
The PAWS 3rd Annual Fall Festival is sponsored by the office of Student Involvement, the Bonner Scholars Program, and the Center for Service Learning. Tickets cost $.50 for one and $1.00 for three. Attendees are welcome to bring their pets.
