New Times Internship Day #12: Thursday, June 24, 2010. Worked 10:00 am-5:00 pm.

Today was a rather quiet day. It was Eric’s start to his week long vacation, so the assistant editor, Dedra, has to take his place until he returns. Because Eric was not there, very little people showed up to work. In fact, I believe only six people showed up. This was a bit disappointing because it was my birthday and my family wanted to show up with bagels or pastries for the office. Thank goodness I called and told them not to come in or else we would have tons of food!
So today, I continued to work on finding the pictures for the stories that were in need of them. I also received a new assignment from Dedra. I was required to change the font and format for stories that were to be put in print. This was on a program called “OpenOffice.orgWriter”. This provided journalistic font and patterns for the stories to be formatted into. Although I always knew that the heading had a different font than the actual body of the article, I did not know that the first paragraph had a different font than the rest of the paragraphs. Yet, both fonts look exactly the same. Overall, today was extremely quiet yet productive.
