Today, I rewrote and organized all the notes I took yesterday during the interviews. After this was done, I wrote a short three paragraph article on my findings. However, my story did not make the blog or get published. This was due to the fact that my story was not written in the “voice” that most New Times articles are written in. Yet, Eric said that I “did a fine job capturing the scene”. He also stated that because all publications have a specific writing style, one must have the capability to make one’s writing sound like that publication in order to get a journalism job. I was a bit disappointed, but accepted the criticism and regarded it as a learning experience. Overall, today was a bit unsatisfactory on my part, but what I learned will aid me in the future and was thus helpful to me.
