New Times Internship Day #1: Monday, June 7, 2010. Worked 10:00 am-5:00 pm.

Today was my first day at my internship. I met up with my supervisor, Eric Barton, who gave me my first assignment. I was to read articles that dealt with the Scott Rothstein incident and compose a timeline out of it. This was to go on the blog on Wednesday, the day that Rothstein was scheduled to go to trial. So, I read as much articles as I could about Rothstein that were posted on the New Times website (there are 350 total), and posted the links to Microsoft Word that were relevant to my project. One can say I learned quite a bit about him! I was also called into a staff meeting that was scheduled at four o’clock. Staff members discussed story ideas. At this meeting, I learned what copy notes were. These are notes that provide the staff members’ ideas. I also learned that at times, it is important to provide titles to stories that are specific over being catchy. Overall, today was extremely busy, yet exciting.
